Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist

An Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist assists at Mass in the distribution of Holy Communion and may bring Eucharist to those homebound, hospitalized and those in the nursing home. They also assure the proper care of the Eucharist and the sacred vessels.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist are appointed by the Bishop to a renewable three year term. Ministers are selected and recommended by the Pastor. Ministers are scheduled to serve every four to six weeks and perform their duties at one of the two churches. They also attend an annual “Day” of prayer, reflection and a community meeting. The “Day” is usually 2-21/2 hours.

A separate schedule is maintained for visits to the homebound. Communion for the hospitalized and homebound follows the 8:30AM Sunday Mass at IC.
